A new toy

For my birthday a couple of weeks ago, Chris surprised me with a new 70-300mm lens for my camera (thanks, Chris!). We've had fun playing with it since and I wanted to share some photos- a lot of these were actually taken by Chris.

Could my boys get any cuter?

Brendan had just ran into a sharp corner and scratched his head, hence the tears and sad face. I couldn't resist taking some pictures of him but that made him cry even harder because he didn't want pictures of his cut.

I love this one mostly because Alex's favorite toy of the afternoon was that Twix bar. He wouldn't let it out of his chubby hands all afternoon. By the end it was pretty smashed and melted but I still ate it anyways. :)

Who knew that Brendan was such a good model?! He's got his posing down.

This was taken Thanksgiving morning and Alex was upset because he couldn't climb up on the couch- even with the help of the vacuum. His face cracks me up. Climbing and playing on the couches are his latest obsession.

Olives are always a part of our Thanksgiving and Brendan still loves to put them on his fingers.

Alex also had fun chowing down on our feast that day.

Hope everyone had a good holiday and is gearing up for Christmas!

  1. Dear Valerie,

Congratulations on your new lens. Now you can zoom in real close and get high-resolution images of your children's recently received corner wounds for them to always remember. They might not be happy about being photographed injured when they're young, but when they get more age and maturity under their belts, they will really appreciate the graphic HD memories.

Also, since no one has answered your question—no, your boys could not get any cuter. Which is quite sad, actually, because the best you can hope for is that they won't change, because when they're at the top of the beauty food chain, any change means getting uglier. You have to appreciate the irony in the fact that if you let your boys grow up, the only direction they have to go is down.

You could always do what I've done and forbid your children to grow up. Then at least if they do grow up and get uglier, they've got no one to blame but themselves. If you do get them to commit to staying young, make sure they say "I promise," though, because I understand that's what it takes to seal the deal in the Near household.

Lucky for you, though, Chris is not the cutest he could be. If I had to rate him for looks, or even if I didn't have to but wanted to, I would probably have given him a 6.0 on the mission, a 7.5 while you were dating, and about an 8.2 last time I saw him a year and a half ago (he's probably like an 8.5 now). If he keeps this up, he's still got a lot of good years ahead of him. Take a moment and picture what he might look like as a 10. Don't think about it too, long, though. I don't want you to be disappointed in the 8.5 you've got now. 8.5 isn't bad.

    Sincerely,

    Zach

  2. I'm pretty much an authority on cuteness and your kids are officially cute-st. I love your pictures. You have some sweet picture taking skills.

  3. I don't disagree with Teagan's conclusion, but why say in just a few words what could be said with many?

Also, I'm interested in the credentials she has that make her an authority on cuteness. Can her claim be trusted? Can anyone really ever be trusted?

  4. I just realized that my first post may have contained a logical fallacy. Cuteness and ugliness are not necessarily opposites. One can lose cuteness but still advance In the good-looking category. Cuteness is something normally associated with little people, women's personalities, and Chris. So as long as your boys gain handsomeness at at least the same rate as they lose cuteness, you have nothing to worry about.

Sorry to have alarmed you with my first post. Put your worries to rest and try to enjoy Chris' in characteristic cuteness.

  5. I am On my phone. For some reason I can't explain, after my phone changed "uncharacteristic" to "in characteristic" it wouldn't let me edit anything I had written. Not even Siri could help. So change that part in your mind as you reread that post, which I am sure you will do often.
